No matter what content you’re talking about, or what context will accompany it, artwork is most important.
As you know, people learn visually, kinesthetically, and/or aurally. Most people, by far, are visual learners. Our eyes seek stimulation. Artwork serves a few key purposes:
- Attracts and directs the eye
- Breaks up long blocks of text
- Shows rather than tells
- Communicates your personality
The quality, appearance and placement of artwork says something about you, for good or ill. If you pride yourself on innovation and professionalism but your artwork is sloppy, doesn’t follow best practices or otherwise looks bad, then it is working against those messages.
Understanding graphics and photos, and gaining some increased facility with them, gives you a big advantage over most when promoting your good work and events.
