Purpose
The North Carolina State Improvement Project (NC SIP) will provide comprehensive, high-quality professional development and follow up coaching that will inform state policies, resources, and partnerships for career pathway programs. The project will increase licensed special educators with the capacity to implement evidence-based practices.
Through these recruitment and retention initiatives, North Carolina seeks to close the educational gap between students with and without disabilities. NC SIP will: (1) Offer comprehensive, high quality professional development and coaching to teachers and administrators on effective instruction to improve the use of evidence-based and high-leverage practices with fidelity among teacher licensure candidates; (2) Partner with Educator Preparation Programs to increase the number of qualified special educators entering and completing the career pathway program; (3) Improve coordination between local districts and Educator Preparation Programs to sustain career pathway programs for special education teacher candidates in North Carolina.

STAIRS-WI is a statewide initiative designed to address Wisconsin’s critical shortage of special education teachers by expanding Registered Teacher Apprenticeship pathways and strengthening induction and retention supports.
