Purpose
The project purpose is to increase educator, leader and family competencies in inclusive practices and tiered services and supports for students with disabilities. As these competencies increase, we expect learning to accelerate and achievement gaps to close for students with disabilities, especially those who are furthest behind (e.g., Black, male, emotional disturbance, served in separate school). Specific expected outcomes from this project are a Statewide Inclusive Professional Learning Framework and Institute, more highly effective local educational agency (LEA) site leaders, general and special educators, and families to support students with disabilities, and dissemination and sustainability of equitable and inclusive education.
The project design uses active implementation, an inclusive equity-based multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), cross- functional teaming, continuous improvement cycles, and technology to create an enabling context for State-wide Inclusive Professional Learning Framework and Institute, which will consist of Special Education Leadership Fellowship for LEA site leaders; Inclusive Practices Professional Learning Series for general and special educators; and Family Special Education Series for families of students with disabilities and others. An embedded evaluator from National Implementation Research Network will use multiple measure to understand impacts of the project on the system and stakeholders.
