Title                      Virginia Tiered System of Supports: Building Capacity and Sustainability in Evidence-Based Practices

Purpose: The goal of this project is to improve literacy outcomes for adolescents with disabilities through the use of a set of evidence-based interventions to be implemented and scaled up in new secondary schools and school divisions. This project will also restructure the special education professional development system to focus on the schools that need the most assistance to achieve rigorous standards for students with disabilities to be college and career ready.

Method: Activities of this project include: (a) supporting schools and districts in implementing Virginia Tiered System of Support (VTSS); (b) providing guidance to districts in conducting self-assessment to identify needs and facilitate the adoption of the VTSS; (c) providing professional development in a variety of methods focusing on efficacy, effectiveness, and sustainability; and (d) supporting project management, data analysis, professional development and coaching in a comprehensive and sustained system of professional development using aligned technological systems.
