Purpose

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has developed the 2017 Oklahoma State Personnel Development Grant III (OK SPDG III) to promote systems change in the content and delivery of professional development (PD) for educators and parents aimed at ensuring better academic and social outcomes for all Oklahoma’s students with disabilities. The project’s design is specifically geared to support, scale-up, and sustain existing scientific, evidence-based practices. The project design will also improve the OSDE’s interoffice collaboration around current state initiatives and plans (i.e., Every Student Succeeds Act and State Systemic Improvement Plan) to provide more efficient and effective PD and technical assistance to low-performing schools.

Method

PD will be provided to districts and at-risk schools through coaching support and an online learning platform to support implementation and sustainability of the Oklahoma Tiered Intervention System of Support (OTISS). PD will be provided to the OSDE School Improvement Team, SPDG System and Literacy Coaches, School Administrators, District and Site Coaches, Leadership and Data Teams, and Literacy Specialists. The evaluation will include both process measures (numbers trained, resources developed, etc.) and impact measures (fidelity of framework implementation, percentage of PD recipients implementing evidence-based practices, etc.), as well as address SPDG Performance Measures 1-3.
