Name: Georgia Department of Education
Project Title: Georgia State Personnel Development Grant (GA SPDG)
City, State: Atlanta, GA
Project Director: Karen Suddeth
Project Director email: ksuddeth@doe.k12.ga.us

Purpose

The purpose of this proposal is to develop, support, and sustain the implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework in Georgia that will lead to improved graduation rates for students with disabilities. This will be done by: (1) developing, implementing, and sustaining a State, regional, and district infrastructure to support schools implementing MTSS: and (2) developing, implementing, and evaluating MTSS professional learning in schools, leading to more effective instruction and a more engaging school climate. Goal 1 outcomes include enhancing the capacity of State, local educational agency (LEA), and school MTSS leadership teams to align, support, and sustain MTSS-related initiatives. Goal 2 outcomes include improved MTSS practices implemented with fidelity and improved student academic and behavioral outcomes.

Method

The GA SPDG will facilitate professional learning (training and coaching) for 3 cohorts,
analyzing and improving district infrastructures to support MTSS implementation. During the second year, districts will work with member schools to support school and classroom MTSS implementation. The collection, analysis, and reporting of data will inform and improve implementation efforts, as well as provide a level of accountability towards meeting project outcomes.
