Support for Check and Connect Mentors with Family Engagement

A required component of Check and Connect implementation is family engagement by the mentor. Florida SPDG has heard repeatedly that this is one of the most challenging components of mentoring. In response to that feedback we have developed three online modules in partnership with a family organization in the state and conducted a survey of family members whose child was being supported by a mentor.

Using a Communication Protocol to Connect Stakeholders

Communication Protocol and Communication Protocol Worksheet from The National Implementation Research Network’s Active Implementation Hub was used develop a communication loop between Nevada’s State implementation team and building level administrators.

Once established the protocol ensured bi-directional communication between staff who work at the school level (i.e., teachers implementing intervention and building-level administrators) and staff who work at the district and state levels (e.g., district coaches, district special education directors, the state special education director).

A tool and process for creating a protocol will be shared.

Parent Survey Item Bank

Looking to create a questionnaire to assess parent needs or measure the effectiveness of your programs and services for families?  Join the Center for Parent Information and Resources to learn about the web-based Parent Center Survey Item Bank.  The item bank includes 150 questions that you can use to create surveys, including pre/post evaluations.  These questions were contributed by Parent Centers and reviewed by evaluators at the Center to Improve Project Performance (CIPP) to ensure they align with the OSEP program measures of Quality, Relevance, and Usefulness.

Web-based Self-Assessment Practice Profile

The Self-Assessment Practice Profile is a web-based tool for self-assessment of implementation of selected evidence-based practices.  The web-based tool begins with a questionnaire, which is computed to form a dashboard and display of implementation levels on practice profiles.  Individual results can be collected into a group or building-level dashboard.  Building-level results can then be shared with district-level leaders.  The results can inform individual, building-level, and district-level coaching.

It’s Tool Time! IRIS’s Online Tools

In addition to our signature STAR Legacy Modules, the IRIS Center’s free online Web tools include annotations of evidence-based practices (with links to further information); links to short videos featuring or having to do with people with disabilities, their teachers, and their families; a glossary of commonly used terms related to disabilities; and databases describing films and children’s book about or having to do with people with disabilities. Family Engagement Teams: Getting Started

This session will provide an overview of Next Steps NH’s Family Engagement Teams Guide. This easy to follow tool contains information for administrators, staff and parents to develop Family Engagement Teams using the focus group strategy. Although designed specifically for NH’s SPDG that focuses on high school transition, its contents easily lend themselves as a family engagement tool for all grades.

New Mexico’s Site Visit Tool: Monitoring Framework Implementation at School Sites

The site visit tool is used to monitor implementation of New Mexico’s SPDG program framework. Teams of three (typically one program staff member, an instructional support coach and another educational expert) collect observation and interview data at a school to provide technical assistance (TA) and to support program improvement.

RDA Site Visit Tool

WINWEB: TA/PD Tracking System

Project WIN is an online resource available to teachers, MTSS coaches, administrators and families. The Project WIN website houses all of the tools Wyoming uses to support MTSS throughout the state. Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) staff can log-in to the site to enter, track, and generate reports on TA requests and workshops.   WDE staff can track the Professional Development and TA requests that come from school districts, Child Development Centers, institutions, and other staff members (with an option to send a follow-up evaluation).  WDE staff can also enter and track workshops.  Attendees can be uploaded, a unique online evaluation link can be generated, evaluation reports can be viewed, and an event planner can be generated for each workshop/session.
