The Purpose of the PLCs is to provide an opportunity for states to connect with other states on these nine topics : Coaching, Collaboration with IHE, Leadership Development/Capacity Bldg, and Restructuring, Family Involvement, Multi-tiered Models of Intervention/RTI, PBIS, Scaling Up and Comprehensive Professional Development Approaches, Secondary Literacym Secondary Transition, and SPDG Grant Management.
Overall Process of PLCS
1. Begin by defining the problem/issue/topic
2. Each participant describes what their state is doing.
a. Determine if more information is needed about each states’ work
3. Determine what information the group needs related to the focal issues
a. What data are available related to the issue?
b. What does the research/literature say about the issue?
i. Based on the data and research, brainstorm improvements
ii. Develop some action steps that a state/entity/person might take
Agenda for first PLC Topic Meeting
1. State Sharing: Each member will describe what they are doing in the content area.
2. Discussion Question: What do participants want to know more about related to specific state work?
3. Discussion Question: Brainstorm what data are needed.
4. Ask for volunteers to research literature and report back to the group.
5. Determine logistics and member agreements:
• Agree upon a recurring meet time (frequency and date/time)
• Deterimine faciliation process (volunteers?)
• Establish engagement protocols
-Are non-members open to attend sessions?
-Is it okay for OSEP personnel to attend?
• Establish communication mechanisms
-Does the group want to meet via teleconference or online meetings?
-Do members want to use the PLC Wiki to share tools and resources?
Below is a list of seven topics that we will not address this year due to limited interest. Individuals, who are still interested in meeting up with others on these topics, please email Jennifer or Audrey.
